THE HABESHA FAMILY

Cashawn Myers, Executive Director
Cashawn Myers founded HABESHA in the spring of 2002 in Atlanta, GA while completing studies at Clark Atlanta University. Cashawn is currently in his final year as a Doctoral Candidate in Education at GSU. Cashawn oversees the day to day operations of HABESHA, handles all public relations and is top fundraiser for HABESHA. He actively works with youth, teaching, going above and beyond most people in his commitment to our youth.

Sean Irving, Program Committee Co-Director
Sean is major artery in the HABESHA body. Incorporating his 10 years of experience from the Bay area, Sean has used his multiple talents on curriculum planning, graphics, multi-media, and directing weekly workshops for HABESHA. Sean actively fundraises for HABESHA as well.

Dedan Kimathi, Program Committee Co-Director
Extraordinary and creative musical genius is Dedan, one of the original members of HABESHA inc. Dedan develops musical content, promotions, and does organic farming for HABESHA. Dedan has worked as a producer and artist performer in the metro Atlanta area and has his own production company. Dedan recently released his first album, a must hear for rap enthusiast.

Miguel Muirhead, Technology Committee Director
Miguel is responsible for the Information technology at HABESHA. Miguel's role is to increase our websites ability to recruit new participants, volunteers, contributors/donors and subscribers to HABESHA. In addition, Miguel provides curriculum development in information technology for HABESHA's students and staff and overall support for program development. Miguel also fundraises for HABESHA.

Dr. Miles Irving, Organization Advisor
Miles Irving, A professor at Georgia State University, Dr. Irving serves as advisor/consultant for HABESHA, and gives guidance on issues of policy, research, and organizational coordination for programs and projects.

Shevon Myers, Administrative Committee Director
Shevon maintains administrative records, assists with workshops and activities, helps coordinate field trips, and serves as liaison to parents of participants in the Black To Our Roots program. She actively fundraises for HABESHA as well. Shevon coordinates volunteer activities and maintains outreach with the broader community.

Rasheeda Ali, PR/Media Committee Director
Rasheeda leads communication initiatives for HABESHA. With print and online media experience, she adds a creative skill set of journalism, marketing, branding, editing and event planning to the team. While actively promoting HABESHA events and fundraising goals, Rasheeda builds relationships with media pros. A talented community activist indeed, Rasheeda also expresses herself through music as a classically trained/ jazz instrumentalist performing live on flute.

Efua Tyehimba, PR/Media Committee
Efua is a member of the public relations committee. She contributes her skills in the areas of journalism and print media for HABESHA INC. Efua volunteers her experience as a community youth advocate and organizer of African tours. She assists with fundraising events, workshops and fieldtrips.

Tre Subira, PR/Media Committee
With several years producing programming for the Educational Mass Media Agency in Ethiopia, Tre Subira brings over 5 years of experience in film. More than 2 of those years were spent at Institute of Ethiopian Studies, Addis Ababa University, producing educational programming for Ethiopian high schools. Tre produced the critically acclaimed documentary "Black To Our Roots" that has received recognition around the world.

Ras Kofi, PR/Media Committee
Kofi works in the area of media promotions and events coordination. Kofi has been an important asset in the promotion of HABESHA through the media. Kofi provides a connection to the airwaves for HABESHA to promote itself and its fundraising events.

Nailah Carty, Development Committee Director
Nailah brings her experience as an educator to the group. She counsels and assists students at workshops. She helps in curriculum planning and teaching, and is on the planning committee for major HABESHA events. She solicits schools to obtain educational materials for our programs. Nailah fundraises for HABESHA.

Kwasi Bonsu, Esq. Legal Affairs Director, Washington, DC
Kwasi Bonsu, Esq. is Program Director for HABESHA DC. Kwasi brings his training as an Attorney and networking skills to the program. Since bringing the HABESHA, Black to Our Roots program to DC, he has successfully sought out corporate and individual sponsorship. Kwasi oversees the overall planning and strategy of the Washington D.C. Black to Our Roots program and serves as a liaison between the HABESHA board of directors in Atlanta and the HABESHA DC volunteers. He also assists with event coordination and volunteer recruitment.

Sherine Bonsu, Media Committee, Washington DC
Sherine Bonsu is Executive Secretary & Events Coordinator for HABESHA DC. Sherine brings her creative and professional background in Events planning to HABESHA. Sherine maintains administrative records, assists with workshops and activities, and communication. She helps coordinate field trips, and events. Sherine actively fundraises for HABESHA as well.

Maiyah Nkengee, Development Committee, Washington, DC
Maiyah Nkengee is Development Coordinator for HABESHA DC. Maiyah brings her experience in administrative services in the non-profit sector to HABESHA. She advises and coordinates correspondence with sponsors, and donors. She assists with marketing, educational and event coordination. Maiyah actively fundraises for HABESHA as well.

Akua Benjamin, Media Committee, Washington, DC
Akua Benjamin is Educational Director & Marketing Coordinator for HABESHA DC. Akua brings her background as a teacher and entrepreneur to the program. She coordinates educational activities, seeks out networking & marketing opportunities, assists with event planning, training, and human resources. Akua actively fundraises for HABESHA as well.

Imara Solwasi, Program Coordinator, Ghana, West Africa
A former Atlanta Librarian who now resides in Ghana, Imara coordinates transportation, lodging, meals, appointments, and events for HABESHA's educational tours to Ghana. Her knowledge of Ghana and strong organizational skills has proven indispensible to the success and smooth transition between the US to Ghana for our participants and staff.

Banfro Edward, Ghanaian Interpreter/Tour Operator
Mr. Edward has been working consistently with HABESHA for over 4 years as an interpreter and tour operator, Mr. Edward accompanies our educational tours in Ghana serving as a translator of Twi, Fante and Ga languages. He guides most of our educational tours across the country providing us with a rich history of places visited. Mr. Edward is also a world class cook, whose mushroom kibabs leaves us salivating for more. The talented linguist is also a mason and tour bus operator.

Ras Nii Darku, Ghanaian Interpreter/Tour Operator
Ras Nii has been working consistently with HABESHA for the past 4 years as an interpreter, workshop instructor, and tour operator. Ras Nii accompanies our educational tours in Ghana serving as a translator of Twi, Fante and Ga languages. He guides most of our educational tours across the country providing us with a rich history of places visited. Ras Nii also conducts workshops with participants including tie-dye making, sand art, and herbal tonics preparation.

Habesha ORGANIC FEST 2008

The 6th Annual Organic Fest is the Southeast's largest celebration combining organic gardening, entertainment and good ole fashion fun with an educational-filled day featuring presentations on maintaining a healthy lifestyle, sustaining communities, environmental issues, food preparation demonstrations, tai chi, children's pavilion and an extensive marketplace. Designed to promote healthy living and ways to sustain and improve our communities, the 6th Annual Organic Fest will be attended by thousands who will be nourished both educationally and musically by leading health practitioners and international musical bands.

Hosted by leading media personalities and celebrities the 6th Annual Organic Fest is destined to be one of the most attended events of the sum mer enriched with the objectives of sustaining and improving the communities, the environme nt, promoting safe and healthy food, protecting our natural resources and strengthening local economies while promoting the health and well being of the consumer.
